Both my mother and father are Scottish American, but the histories of their two family lines were quite dissimilar and presented various research difficulties. Alex McDonald of Beacon Genealogy has ample experience working with Scottish primary and secondary sources, and his research was extensive and quite helpful. And when one of the family lines strayed from Alex’s area of expertise, through geography and history, he used his extensive contacts to guide me to another excellent researcher.

Alexander’s tenacity and analytical skills enabled him to trace my family back no fewer than 14 generations. He succeeded in filling in gaps in my family history, and as a result, I have made contact with long lost family members in Australia. I recommend his services wholeheartedly.

Provided a great insight into my family history and it was all generated from only one piece of original documentation. The report I received was well written, accurate and easily accessible – an interesting read for many members of my family. Amazing in depth research that was created over quite a short space of time and yet covered a large expanse of years – just brilliant!

Alex excels as a researcher and does an excellent job in finding family records. He is very knowledgeable in military history and managed to find difficult to obtain records about my late father’s army service in France and in the UK during the Second World War. Presently, Alex is finalising my family history so that it is accessible and user friendly on the smart phones of my sister’s grandchildren in Canada, if and when they ever become interested in knowing about their Scottish ancestors. I would recommend Alex’s services to anyone who wishes to find out about their Scottish family history.

I asked Alex to compile a family tree of a local family to include in a new guide book for a Yorkshire parish church. It was quite a complicated family but Alex, quickly and efficiently, produced a clear, easily -understood version which has been included in the guide. I am very grateful to Alex for his work which has added to the interest of the guide book.
